Words have great power. They can give rise to the immense hidden potential within all of us. Carefully constructed sentences can affect our behavior, habits, mental health, and whole lives.
It is these sentences that are called affirmations. The same way the word is made defines what it is about. The term “affirm” means “to declare” and entails assertions about things we want to manifest in our lives.
Affirmations inspire and motivate us to achieve our dreams and desires. They generate powerful imagery in our minds that pushes us to bring them into physical existence.
They also play a pivotal role in warding off negative thoughts and emotions that can directly lead to situations and things we are better off not having in our lives.
The positive effects that these short sentences have in our lives are anything but minor. By galvanizing the human spirit, they can transform a life full of struggle into a life full of joy and happiness. All we have to do is use them mindfully and witness the magic unfold.
Do Affirmations Actually Work?
Yes. They most certainly do. And it all has to do with our minds. Whether we realize it or not, we all use affirmations, which dictate how our lives unfold. These can be deep-rooted beliefs that we keep repeating to ourselves repeatedly.
Unbeknownst to us, these affect our thinking patterns, emotional stability, and behavior and lead to positive or negative results, depending on the state of said beliefs.
If we control this process, we can create our reality. By avoiding the cycle of negative thinking and instead developing a habit of saying positive statements activates brain systems and rewires them to foster thoughts about growth, prosperity, and abundance.
Our minds act as the land, and our thoughts and beliefs act as seeds. And as they say, we reap what we sow. We will inevitably reap decisive results by sowing the seeds of positivity (by using affirmations).
The way this works behind the scenes is quite intriguing. Our subconscious minds are responsible for most of our thoughts, but we are only ever aware of a small percentage of these thoughts consciously.
Our conscious minds are just the tip of the proverbial iceberg, while the bulk of it (the subconscious mind) remains hidden below the surface. It is here where the magic happens.
When something is repeated often enough, our subconscious minds perceive it as the truth. So, if we have repeated thoughts of inadequacy and low self-esteem, the subconscious mind will believe it, and all of our thinking patterns and actions will be influenced by this belief.
But, if we repeat positive affirmations, the subconscious mind will take that as the new reality and adjust everything about us accordingly. It is then that we manifest the same in our physical reality.
Do Positive Affirmations Work While Sleeping?
It might surprise many people to know that during sleep, there are times when the mind remains open to receiving new information. Scientists are still trying to understand the secrets of sleep and how everything works, but it has been shown that the brain is even more active while sleeping.
During sleep, it does a whole host of essential things without which we couldn’t function. One of the most important brain systems associated with arranging information is highly impressionable when we are in a subconscious state.
When we go to sleep while listening to affirmation audios, we feed these statements to the subconscious mind. Even if we fall asleep, that part of our minds keeps receiving the information.
Before sleep, we enter a “hypnotic state” where the subconscious mind considers these affirmations as suggestions.
Doing this daily specifies these affirmations into the deepest part of the mind. And when these become the dominant subconscious thoughts, our lives genuinely happen as we want them to.
How To Do Daily Affirmations?
Creating affirmations that work for us as individuals is a work of art. We all have unique desires and wishes that we’d like to be fulfilled, so our affirmations will also differ. But the basic formula remains the same.
The first step is to write affirmations for everything we want. Make sure these are written in the present tense, and it is better if they start with the words “I am,” although this isn’t completely necessary. So, if we want money, we could use affirmation examples such as “I am ready to receive money into my life.” or “I am a money magnet.” Since we will practice these affirmations daily, we need to nail them down.
Once we have our affirmations written down for everything we want, we should take a moment to relax. Deep breathing works best for this purpose. Then we need to say the affirmations with as much conviction as possible. It is better to say them slowly and clearly.
Some suggest standing in front of a mirror and then saying them to ourselves. We should do whatever we are the most comfortable with.
One important thing to remember is that repetition is key. Zig Ziglar once said, “Repetition is the mother of learning, the father of action, which makes it the architect of accomplishment.” So, doing these “sessions” more than once a day is good.
How Many Affirmations Per Day?
There are no hard and fast rules regarding how many affirmations we can say in a day. There are many factors involved, and they will be different for each individual.
There will naturally be only a handful of affirmations for someone who wants one specific outcome, but someone desiring ten different things will have many more varied affirmations.
The salient point here is that we should only say as many affirmations as we can with total conviction in a single session.
If there are too many of them, it could feel like a chore. We might also feel like rushing them to finish our other daily tasks. At that point, we might as well not do it because it wouldn’t seep into the subconscious mind.
To start, we can say four to five affirmations for each thing we want. That way, even if we have five different desires, there would only be twenty to twenty-five affirmations.
Again, the key is not the number of these but how we say them. Even if the reality around us is the exact opposite of what we want, we should say the affirmations like they are already real. That is when they will work.
When Is The Best Time To Say Affirmations?
There isn’t a cookie-cutter answer for this. We all have our routines, so the best times to be practicing affirmations will differ from one person to the other. Also, it might take a few days to get the times right, and a slight adjustment in our routines may be necessary.
Before we allot specific time slots for saying them, we must remember one essential thing. Our state of mind plays a huge role while saying these affirmations. So, we must choose when to be relaxed and focused on what we are saying. There might be times during the day, like when we are at work when other things can completely occupy our minds.
It’s best not to say affirmations during such times.
Most people set mornings and nighttime to do their rituals. In the morning, our minds are calm and are not filled with too many thoughts. At night, before bed, we are relaxed and completely surrender to the flow of positive vibes.
These are the best times for most people. But we can keep repeating them throughout the day if we need some motivation. It all depends on what feels suitable for us as individuals.
Do Affirmations Have to Be Said Out Loud?
Depending on whom we ask, we will get different answers to this. Some will tell us that we can sit in silence and say the affirmations in our minds or hearts rather than saying them out loud.
This might work for them, and nothing says this shouldn’t work, but for most people, it is better to say them out loud.
Our minds react more to things that can engage our various senses. We respond vigorously to our favorite food because it engages our eyes, nose, and taste buds.
So, it only makes sense to use as many sensory organs as possible while conducting our daily ritual.
When we say affirmations out loud, it affects our minds. We can even feel the energy surge throughout our bodies if we say them with conviction.
Of course, there are times and places where we cannot say them out loud, and it is in these places and times when we can say them in our heads. But while we are at home, it makes more sense to say them out loud and feel every word as if it were already true.
How Long Do Affirmations Take To Work?
As with all our other efforts, the effects of affirmations can take some time to materialize.
Nobody can say for sure when the positive changes will begin to happen. For some, it might happen on the same day; for others, it might take a month or more.
There are many factors at play here.
We shouldn’t dwell too much on when things will start happening.
Instead, we must remain focused on saying our affirmations daily as positively as possible. Also, we shouldn’t let negative thought patterns take root in our minds.
Eventually, things will change for the better. As with most things, patience is a crucial factor.
It can be challenging for some, especially those in dire situations, but perseverance is vital.
Take positive action
To unlock the true power of affirmations, we need to take a physical step toward our goals.
This is where positive action plays an essential pivotal role, Power Thoughts Meditation Club says” You also need to be open to the signs, people, and opportunities that present themselves to you when you use affirmations in your daily rituals.
This is especially important if you are using many affirmations where action on your part is needed. You become a powerful magnet.”
They go on to say, “it will require that you also take the necessary action that is needed. Many people forget this part. ACTION! It is always necessary in some form for changes to take place if you want to go down the river and are given a boat.
You won´t go down that river before you take action by putting the boat in the river, jump in it and start rowing. The boat won´t go out on the river by itself. If a person is given a free ticket for a dream vacation, that person needs to plan and do what is necessary to make the vacation happen.”
Why Are Affirmations Important?
Affirmations have a multi-dimensional effect on our lives. They fill us with motivation and enthusiasm, which alone can help us surpass any obstacle.
Sometimes, all it takes is the right attitude for us to solve a seemingly insurmountable challenge.
How often do we think that we’re unable to get out of a rough patch, but eventually, we do it, anyway?
Too many times to count.
Changing our very thinking patterns help us evolve into better versions of ourselves.
We see opportunities everywhere and notice that life becomes smoother. Our ability to remain focused on our goals is greatly enhanced, and we develop a go-getter quality. All because we can sustain positive thinking for more extended periods.
Affirmations also bring us face-to-face with everything that we already have. In the chaos of everyday life, it is easy to forget just how many blessings we already have in our lives.
Affirmations can reconnect us with gratitude, and we begin to value everything even more. This helps us live fulfilled and satisfying lives.
The most important thing, however, is that we live a life filled with happiness and joy.
That’s because we can attract all our dreams and desires. That is a significant achievement in today’s world, where people are lost in the ever-growing noise and drama.
In fact, by telling other people about the power of affirmations, we can also hope to bring a positive shift in other people’s lives.
